The only company to remain in the top 20 for five years running, MTN under Phuthuma Nhleko has done well again off a very high base. It has been able to expand more aggressively in Africa than rival Vodacom, and the move into the Middle East - regarded by some as too risky - is proving inspired. The most recent results presentation in June suggested a company on top of its game - but cellphone charges are regarded as too high.
