A slump in maize plantings and soaring feedstock prices played havoc with Omnia's normally biggest profit centre, fertilisers. Operating profit tumbled 97% at the September 2005 interim stage and management warns that full-year earnings per share could plummet by 40%. At worst this will leave Omnia's EPS at half 2003's peak level.
