SABMiller has shown that it can take on the world's best and succeed, not just in emerging markets but in the world's biggest developed beer arena, the US. Of all the global brewers, it has the broadest geographic footprint and perhaps the cleverest strategies. It doesn't have a home-grown global brand such as Heineken, so it builds local brands - augmented by superpremium international brands such as Pilsner Urquell. Global organic volume growth is double the industry average. Though challenging times lie ahead, notably from increased competition from Anheuser-Busch in the US, the outlook is bright.
