5 KAGISO MEDIA

Total score: 63,3% Historic score: 44,3 FM's score: 76

Kagiso Media, SA's most empowered media group, has improved its standing this year - moving up three places from eighth last year. It is one of the consistent performers on the JSE, thanks to good economic performance and balanced diversification.

In 2004, 45% of its R297m income came from radio broadcasting activities. It has a major share in Jacaranda 94.2 (60%), East Coast Radio (100%) and Free State-based OFM (24,9%). It recently added 16% of Gauteng-based Kaya FM, and 24,9% in both P4 Cape Town and P4 Durban. The P4 transactions are in partnership with Makana Investment Corp and Tiso Radio. Kagiso will almost certainly be a player when the first commercial licences are issued in the Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape provinces.
