SA's Top 20 Companies

4 EDCON

Total score: 64,7 Historic score: 44,7 FM's score: 78

This ranking recognises a company whose share-price performance over two years has been outstanding. Edcon now has the largest market capitalisation in its sector. Much of the credit must go to CEO Steve Ross. But Edcon also has tremendous general management strength. Though the rate of growth will cool down this financial year and next, it should still be above average - for the industry and the market. Once the market appreciates that a structural change has occurred in consumer spending, further share price growth can be expected.
