The low profile of this Cape-based business belies its outstanding quality. For many years, and especially since its higher visibility in the wake of the 1998 JSE listing, Truworths has been the yardstick among fashion clothing retailers. Virtually all Truworths' traditional retailing measures are well above industry norms. Truworths seems to have made fewer mistakes than most and even when it has, such as the Sportsgirl investment in Australia, it was quick to dispose of the offending item and refocus. It manages to keep growing earnings at a respectable pace, even from its high base.
