10 REUNERT

Total score: 58,3 Historic score: 33,4 FM's score: 75

For eight years Reunert has delivered admirable growth, despite headwinds, including Telkom's slashed spending and the strength of the rand . Success is the result of astute management (led by CEO Bull Pretorius), focus on cashflow and a diversity of businesses. Recent growth was underpinned by Reunert's dominant position in the consumer electronics market. Now its electrical engineering division, which includes African Cables and Circuit Breaker Industries, is coming to the fore. The housing boom and municipal infrastructure spending provided the initial impetus, boosting divisional profit 49% in the six months to March.

The next wave should come from Eskom's capex programme.
